PRE-PERFORMANCE INTERVIEW WITH HANNAH NUTTALL (West End Kid)
By Alex Martin
QUESTION:
How has the lead up to the performances been over the last few weeks?
It’s been stressful what with learning everything and I think it was quite hard at the beginning but we get used to it. Now the performance element is in it and everyone is enjoying it more and it is running much more smoothly.
QUESTION:
How much time have you had to put in to get to the required standard?
A lot of time! It takes a lot out of you, but the rehearsal we had on Sunday showed we could do it. If everyone puts in the effort, it’s amazing and I don’t mind putting time into it so it’s both tiring and worthwhile!
QUESTION:
Despite the hard work and the long rehearsals, has it been enjoyable?
Yes it has been really enjoyable because we’re having fun with it as well. Everyone has put the effort in, taken the time to get it right, and now everyone’s working together.
QUESTION:
Do you like the fact there’s a lot of performances going on this term?
One term I did we just did one performance and that was it so there was only one chance to get it right. This time it’s better as there’s lots of performances and 2 reviews as well. By the time it’s finished I think it’s going to be a bit sad. It’s great because we’re not just working toward one performance and it also builds up performance stamina which will be really useful if we go into it professionally when we’re older!
QUESTION:
Are you looking forward to this weekend?
I really am! I think it’s going to be really good, a weekend of WEK can be hard, but fun especially when everyone’s together, as cheesy as it is! Dreamflight is good cause as well, I’m not a massively emotional person but I looked into what they do and I think it’s amazing. I love the fact that we can be involved with it. West End Live, as always, is going to be amazing.
QUESTION:
Do you think you’ve got what you wanted out of the rehearsal period?
Yes, I think I do, especially this term. It’s hard to learn all the songs and dances we’ve done but the resources have helped us a lot, like the rehearsal tapes and videos on the website. The last few rehearsals were the best and I think we got everything we need out of them. During the early rehearsals we had to rely on the resources because of the high work load, but the last few weeks the rehearsals were so worthwhile when we got the performance and story telling element into it. You can’t do that on your own!
QUESTION:
Does it make you proud to be a WEK?
It really does. Since I first started, I think it’s come on such a long way with the big performances like West End Live and Dreamflight and we know we can hack it! We’re not losing voices and breaking ankles and the fact we can do it is making me really proud.
